Elon Musk's DOGE role and the agencies probing his companies

Stage 2 of 5: Inquiry · Letters and records requests · Last development 13 Oct 2026

Elon Musk led DOGE as a special government employee while keeping control of Tesla, SpaceX, xAI/X, Neuralink and the Boring Company. Senate investigations subcommittee minority staff counted at least 65 actual or potential actions by 11 federal agencies against Musk and his companies as of Jan 20, 2025, with at least $2.37 billion in potential liability. A June 2025 report from Sen. Warren's office lists agency actions during his tenure, including a dropped DOJ hiring case against SpaceX, an NLRB move to settle allegations against SpaceX, and a closed OSHA investigation into Tesla.

Both reports come from Democratic minority offices. Neither shows that Musk personally intervened in any specific case, and no official finding has been made.
